What is Development and Growth? Biology

What is Development and Growth of Plants? Biology - All living things if various supporting factors are available, they will experience growth and development. Growth and Development are two different processes, although they often run together and are difficult to separate.

Growth vs Development of Plants
Growth of plants
Growth is a process of change in cells or the body that is quantitative (can be measured). For example increasing the size (like number, volume, height, diameter and area) that can not be returned (irreversible). So it can be interpreted that living things that have grown then can not return to its original state as before experiencing growth, because growth is quantitative. We can easily find out growth in living things through a measurement. For example, measurements of stem height, stem diameter, leaf surface area, ore number of cells.

Developments is a process of change towards the maturity of organ function through a series of changes in body shape (morphogenesis). In addition, development can also be interpreted as change to a higher level, orderly, and more complex. Therefore the changes that occur are qualitative, such as maturity or adulthood. So that development cannot be measured quantitatively.

Growth and development of living things begins with the meeting of male sex cell and female sex cells which then produce zygotes. Then the zygote experiences growth and development into an embryo and then becomes a seed (in plants) or a baby (in animals and humans). If it is in a suitable environment, seeds will grow to develop into seeds, young plants, and mature plants that can produce fruit. At this level, the structure of plants is far more complex than that of zygotes or seeds. Likewise, babies can grow and develop into adult individuals who have matured organ functions.
